From Fethiye it was off to Olympos, via Antalya where we stayed just
for one night at a small pension after another long bus haul and several bus changes. Olympos to me really wasn’t all it was cracked up to be. I stayed in a really cool little tree house, which this spot is famous for, and checked out the beach where ancient ruins are strewn all around. Was quite impressive to see ruins from the Roman rule periods meeting the ocean. Met a couple of cool aussies, Charlotte and Scottie who had great politics and were good for a yarn. Was referred to by a bunch of 18 year old American kids as ‘old and lame’ due to the sight of cards being played and wines being drunk, without jager bombs and teenagers hooking up! Very funny. Stayed in Olympos for 2 nights and then headed back to Antalya to get a connecting bus north to the region of Cappadocia in the centre of Turkey.
Pics - The top 4 shots are of the tree house in Olympos and the beach of Olympos. The last 6 shots are from the museum in Antalya, which has the largest amount of Roman and Greek statues with the oldest range. It was really amazing and surprisingly unboring to spend a whole day there! The detail in the marble is absolutely brilliant, to see such texture in how clothing falls on a body when it is made from stone blows ya mind. Particularlly obvious in the shot of the statue with no head, the fabric looks like it flows dont ya reckon?!
